Sitting Volleyball is an adapted version of the indoor game and is aimed principally at people with a disability. However, at club level anyone can play making it truly inclusive. It is fast paced and requires participants to track a moving ball and move dynamically to play it. It is a fun, social sport but also competitive and provides a great work out!
We are dedicated to promoting the sport of Sitting Volleyball by increasing participation and awareness in clubs, schools, and communities across the UK. This website provides free resources for anyone who is thinking about delivering sessions or setting up a club.
Purpose: To judge ball flight and execute a high pass to the target.
How it works: Working in groups of 3, Player A feeds a ball over the net to Player B. Player B passes to Player C who is sitting with their back to the net. Player C catches and returns the ball to Player A. Repeat 10 times and then rotate.
Purpose: To strengthen ball flight judgment, movement to the ball's falling point and being stable when passing.
How it works: The coach feeds a high ball into court giving time for the player to judge its falling point, so they can move to play it to a target.
Purpose: To develop ball flight judgment and dynamic movement working co-operatively with a partner and opposition.
How it works: Player A on Side A passes a high ball over the net to Player B on Side B. As soon as they have executed the pass, Player A exits the court space and Player C moves dynamically into the space ready to receive the ball. The same happens on Side B, with Player B passing back over the net, exiting the court space so that Player D can enter. See if you can make 10 consecutive passes.
Purpose: To promote movement, communication and ball control.
How it works: 2 players start in the middle of the court at the net. The coach slaps the ball and players move back and apart into the back court. The coach feeds a ball to either player who passes to their partner, who passes back finishing with a hit over the net. The players exit the court and join the line at the side of the court. 2 new players enter the court and the activity continues.
